MICHAEL BRIERLEY (director of photography)

Michael Brierley (director of photography) has been active in the Film Industry since 1984 and has progressed through the camera department, working as a camera assistant on feature films and commercials and beginning work as a director of photography in 1993. Specializing in commercials, he has also been directing since 1997, and is in demand both locally and abroad. In 1999, he was recognized by his peers and awarded the title S.A.S.C. His feature credits as a cinematographer include “Second Skin,” the short film “Raya,” “Borderline,” and “Critical Assignment,” and he directed the second unit on “Sandmother” and “The Piano Player.” Brierley has also photographed two documentaries, “The Red People,” on the Himba Tribe in Namibia, and the environmental documentary “Hunterman.”

Brierley previously teamed with director Darrell James Roodt as a camera operator on “Sarafina!” He is fluent in English, Afrikaans and Zulu.
